Forest Bathing

Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet
and the winds long to play with your hair.
– Kahlil Gibran

A balm for your entire being forest bathing nourishes body, mind, and spirit.

A typical forest bathing session is a two to three hour gentle guided walk in nature. We leave the everyday world behind and experience the forest with all our senses. We are invited to unplug, slow down and connect with the natural world as well with our own inner landscape and sense of childlike wonder.

The health benefits of spending time in nature are well supported with plenty of scientific evidence. In Japan, where the practice originated as Shinrin Yoku, it has became an integral part of healing and preventive health care.

High stress hormone levels can compromise your immune system. By reducing these levels your body’s natural defense system is better able to its work. Trees release oils into the air, called phytoncides, and inhaling these natural essences can actually help to boost your immune system.

Forest Bathing is an evidence-based practice that supports health and wholeness. It is also a deep contemplative practice.

Simply being present in the natural world – with all our senses fully alive – can have a remarkably healing effect. It can also awaken in us our latent but profound connection with all living things.

How I go to the woods

Ordinarily, I go to the woods alone, with not a single
friend, for they are all smilers and talkers and therefore

I don’t really want to be witnessed talking to the catbirds
or hugging the old black oak tree. I have my way of
praying, as you no doubt have yours.

Besides, when I am alone I can become invisible. I can sit
on the top of a dune as motionless as an uprise of weeds,
until the foxes run by unconcerned. I can hear the almost
unhearable sound of the roses singing.

If you have ever gone to the woods with me, I must love
you very much.”
