Forest Bathing

Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet
and the winds long to play with your hair.
– Kahlil Gibran

A balm for your entire being, forest bathing nourishes body, mind, and spirit.
A forest bathing session is a gentle guided walk in nature, usually lasting two to three hours. We leave the everyday world behind and experience the forest with all our senses. We are invited to unplug, slow down, and connect with the natural world, as well as with our own inner landscape and sense of childlike wonder.

Forest bathing offers a way of remembering our belonging. Through simple sensory invitations, we linger with trees, water, earth, and air. A sense of being held within something larger than ourselves often arises naturally.

Each session closes by gathering for a shared cup of herbal tea, usually prepared from plants foraged from the surrounding land. This closing ritual offers a gentle way to reflect and settle before returning to everyday life.

The health benefits of spending time in nature are well supported by scientific research. In Japan, where the practice originated as Shinrin Yoku, forest bathing has become an integral part of preventive health care. These benefits tend to arise naturally when we slow down and spend time in the forest.

Forest bathing can be experienced in several ways:
• One-on-one sessions, offering a quiet and personal experience
• Private walks for friends, families, or small groups
• Family forest bathing walks, supporting parents in gently encouraging their children to spend time in nature
• Sessions for small teams or groups seeking a shared, grounding experience outdoors
• Occasional and often themed public walks open to anyone who feels drawn to join

Forest bathing is an evidence-based practice that supports health and wholeness. It is also a deep contemplative practice. And it is fun.

I am an ANFT-certified forest therapy guide and lead forest bathing sessions in both English and German in and around the Zurichsee area. I am available for private individual and group walks. Walks open to the public are listed below. Please contact me directly for more information.

Simply being present in the natural world – with all our senses fully alive – can have a remarkably healing effect. It can also awaken in us our latent but profound connection with all living things.

How I go to the woods

Ordinarily, I go to the woods alone, with not a single
friend, for they are all smilers and talkers and therefore
unsuitable.

I don’t really want to be witnessed talking to the catbirds
or hugging the old black oak tree. I have my way of
praying, as you no doubt have yours.

Besides, when I am alone I can become invisible. I can sit
on the top of a dune as motionless as an uprise of weeds,
until the foxes run by unconcerned. I can hear the almost
unhearable sound of the roses singing.

If you have ever gone to the woods with me, I must love
you very much.”
